Blue Monday - What is it?

‘Blue Monday’ usually occurs on the third Monday of January and is supposedly the most depressing day of the year. This year, Blue Monday occurs on January, 15th. Fear not though, we at Allcare Pharmacy have some tips on how to beat those Monday Blues.

 

Self-care

Self-care is one of the most important cornerstones of health and well-being and yet one of the most neglected. Many of us are so busy caring for others that we neglect ourselves. Stress and burnout are more common now than ever before. Give yourself the kind of care and attention you would to friends and family and ensure to add some YOU time to your busy schedule!

Self-care tip 1: Don’t forget the basics

Make sure to eat regular meals, drink plenty of water, have regular showers, and get enough sleep. For those taking regular medication, ensure that you do not skip doses.

Self-care tip 2: Maintain a routine

Establish a regular sleep schedule and plan time and activities for the day ahead. Establishing a routine helps reduce stress by making the day/ situation more controllable and predictable.

Self-care tip 3: Stay connected

Whenever possible, make yourself available to friends, family, and relationships. Reply to text messages, answer calls and socialise!

Self-care tip 4: Stay Active

Exercise can do wonders for both your physical and mental well-being. Try a home workout, gym class, new sport, or a walk in your local park/area.

With this said, self-care comes in many different shapes and sizes. Think about what energises you, is it a walk in the fresh air? A quick nap? A half an hour with your favourite book? Or a phone call with your best mate? Whatever it is, do it today! There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to self-care, take a moment to think about what you need and indulge yourself.

 

Don’t forget to treat yourself!

From time to time it is perfectly ok to treat yourself! This could be snacking on your favourite food or buying yourself something nice!
